A video of Mohanlal’s open letter to Pinarayi Vijayan has had over 2.5 lakh views in 20 hours

Thiruvananthapuram, June 23:  The letter, posted on his official website (www.thecompleteactor. com), attracted even more people after Mohanlal posted it as a video, dubbed in his voice, on his Facebook page. At the time of filing this report, the video had over 2.5 lakh views, in less than 20 hours since it was uploaded.

This is, of course, not the first time that Mohanlal has voiced his concerns about social issues. He often does that through his blog. The writings on his blog have also been published in a couple of books. In the letter to the Chief Minister, the actor refers to several issues that the State faces at the moment, such as waste management; atrocities against women, children and the elderly; traffic congestion; road accidents due to speeding; and environment.

He makes it clear at the beginning of the letter that it should not be treated as one from an actor, but as a memorandum from a citizen living in Kerala. “If these issues are not addressed, Kerala has no future,” he says. He goes on to say that garbage was the biggest threat for the State. “There should be specific places for the waste to be disposed of and those who deposit them in public spaces ought to be punished,” he says.

He also stresses the need to preserve nature, or what is left of it. “You and your government have to protect the greenery of our beautiful land,” the actor says. “We have to preserve the remaining forests, waterfalls, hills and paddy fields. If we do not, Kerala will become just a green dot in our memory.”
