Atleast 63 dead ead After Indore-Patna Express Derails Near Kanpur

Kanpur, November 20:  In a train accident near Kanpur, at least 63 people were killed and more than 100 were injured as 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, early morning today.
The accident took place at around 3 am near Pukhrayan, about 100 km from Kanpur, at a time when most of the passengers were asleep. It was seen that several severely mangled coaches piled up against each other.

Northern Central Railways spokesperson Vijay Kumar said that doctors and senior railway officials reached the spot soon after the accident and rescue operations were underway. The cause of the accident was not known immediately.

Over 100 injured people have been rushed to nearby hospitals in the area. All hospitals have been asked to be alert. More than 30 ambulances are pressed into service, the IG said, adding that over 250 police officials are helping carrying out rescue and relief operations.

Railways Ministry spokesperson Anil Saxena said several people have been rushed to nearby hospitals with injuries, and the casualties may go up.

Accident relief train was rushed to the spot, he said.
