BSF seizes consignment of silver, nabs cattle smuggler
Guwahati, Nov 1 (IANS) The Guwahati Frontier personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) have seized about eight kilograms of silver about to be smuggled out to Bangladesh, a BSF spokesman said on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, they also apprehended one Indian cattle smuggler from near the Indo-Bangla border in Coochbehar district of West Bengal.
The incident took place on Monday evening, the spokesman said.
“Surveillance was mounted in the border area on Monday based on specific information. However, the suspect approached the target area with the consignment and tried to throw it across the border fence towards Bangladesh.
“As the troopers rushed towards the site, the suspect dumped the consignment and fled the spot,” the BSF spokesman said, adding that the consignment included 7.976 kg of silver in two packets.
“The material was later verified to be genuine silver and the approximate cost of the seized consignment is a little over Rs 3 lakh,” he added.
Meanwhile, a cattle smuggler was apprehended by the security personnel at a border outpost, along with one cattle head, in the wee hours of Tuesday while trying to push it from India to the Bangladesh side.
