Check all vehicles, including ambulances: Punjab CEO
Chandigarh, Dec 26 (IANS) Punjab Chief Electoral Officer V.K. Singh on Monday directed nodal officers to ensure a thorough check of all vehicles passing through areas under their jurisdiction ahead of the 2017 assembly elections.
The vehicles to be checked include all official vehicles, including those of the police, and even ambulances.
The direction is aimed at checking the supply of liquor, money or any other items to lure prospective voters before or during elections.
He asked the nodal officers to establish permanent checkpoints in the state and ensure their proper maintenance and thorough checking of every vehicle passing by.
“To check smuggling and easy flow of liquor at inter-state barriers, sniffer dogs would be deployed, besides videotaping of the entire checking process,” Singh said.
He said closed-circuit television will be installed in liquor godowns which would be under constant check.
The Chief Electoral Officer also directed officials to ensure maintenance of brand- wise registers of liquor already in stocks. “The actual sale of previous year and the sale till date have got to be recorded,” he added.
