Chelsea striker Costa is hungry for more goals
London, Dec 12 (IANS) Chelsea striker Diego Costa has sounded a warning to opponents, saying that he has yet to deliver his best, despite registering 12 goals in the English Premier League (EPL) football season so far.
Costa’s goal on Sunday helped Chelsea overcome West Bromwich Albion to record a ninth straight victory in the EPL.
If the superb conversion rate of 12 goals in 15 games is not enough, Spaniard Costa said that he is hungry for more.
“I’m in great form but it’s not the best I’ve ever played,” Costa told Chelsea’s website on Monday.
With this win, the Antonio Conte-coached Chelsea have moved three points clear at the top over second-placed Arsenal, who have 34 points from 15 games.
Costa also praised his team-mates for the way they’ve been defending of late — since Conte’s change of formation to 3-4-3 which is being termed as the tactical switch of the season.
“The best way to attack is to defend well first and we are doing it at the minute. They had a few chances at the start of the game but that was it. The team are very compact and well organised so that makes it easier when we attack.” Costa said.
While it was compatriot midfielder Cesc Fabregas’s initial pass which led to Costa’s goal, the former preferred to credit his 28-year-old teammate.
“There is something that every pass I make he turns it into something special,” he said.
“It will probably count as an assist but it was all him. The football wasn’t the best but we knew we had to go in behind and push them lower and lower with good pressure.”
