Cho Ramaswamy gets Padma Vibhushan
New Delhi, Jan 25 (IANS) Political satirist Srinivasa Iyer, known as Cho Ramaswamy, has been awarded with the Padma Vibhushan (posthumous) this year for his contribution in the field of art, culture and literature along with Devi Prasad Dwivedi.
Maha Chakri Sirindhorn from Thailand has also been honoured with Padma Vibhushan for her contribution in the same field.
Other artists who been awarded with Padma Shri for their contribution in the field are Chemanchery Kunhiraman Nair, Aruna Mohanty for dance, Baoa Devi, Tilak Gitai for painting, Aekka Yadagiri Rao for sculpture, Wareppa Naba Nil for theatre, Birkha Bahadur Limboo Muringla, Eli Ahmed, Narendra Kohli, G. Venkatasubbiah, Akkitham Achyuthan Namboothiri, Kashi Nath Pandita, Chamu Krishna Shastry, Harihar Kripalu Tripathi, Michel Danino, Punam Suri, V.G. Patel, V. Koteswaramma, Balbir Dutt, Vishnu Pandya, Anant Agarwal for literature, education and journalism and Meenakshi Amma for martial arts.
Padma Awards — one of the highest civilian awards of the country are given in various disciplines of activities. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
