Delhi woman alleged police indifference to the safety of women  on incident in Hauz Khas Village

NEW DELHI,July6:: A Delhi woman on Thursday alleged police indifference to the safety of women after she was witness to a disturbing incident in Hauz Khas Village, a trendy nightspot in the Capital.

The Delhi native, whose Twitter handle is Koval, said that on Wednesday night she saw three or four men together try to abduct a woman who came out of a bar with an inebriated male friend.

Koval said she tweeted a message to the Delhi Police who replied asking her to contact the control room as well as the police station in the Hauz Khas Village area.

When timesofindia.com contacted Delhi police, an official said police can only take action if a complaint is filed.

“Police can only take action if a complaint is filed and till now no one has formally reported or informed anything about the incident,” said additional DCP (South Delhi) Chinmoy Biswas to timesofindia.com.

The official denied that the area Koval referred to is not policed.

“We have police pickets there and security vans also monitor area continuously,” added Biswas.

Talking about the incident, Koval said the abduction attempt appeared to be premeditated. She alleged the men could be heard saying “Just get her and put her in the car”, said Koval, who wrote about the incident in detail on Twitter.

She said that when she went up to the car full of men demanding to know what they were doing, they threatened her too. “We are taking this woman to drop her off, if you talk too much well take you too somewhere,” one of them allegedly said to Koval.

The men finally left because Koval had male friends with her and after she began to try filming them on her phone.

Worse, she said, there was not a single policeman on the stretch of road which is packed with bars and restaurants and visited by hundreds, if not thousands of people.
