Farmers fight overs cots at Rahul’s ‘khaat’ sabha

Lucknow, Sep 06: A large number of farmers scuffled with each other on Tuesday to flee with Khatiyas (wooden cots) soon after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi ended his ‘Khat Sabha’ at Deoria in Uttar Pradesh.

Video footage showed that commotion started among the villagers and also with the Congress volunteers over taking wooden cots home.

“We were told by the local Congress leader to take the cot home after the sabha is over,” one of the villagers, who attended Rahul’s Khat Sabha, said.

Another while taking a jibe of the situation, said, “Sabha khatam…khat khatam (Khat ends with the conclusion of Sabha)”.

Rahul on Tuesday started his UP campaign with ‘khaat sabhas’ with farmers in a bid to capture power in the politically important state of UP.

He met with the farmers, promising loan waiver and reduction in power tariff by 50 per cent if voted to power in the 2017 Assembly polls.

The ‘Deoria to Dilli yatra’ is part of the Congress campaign to end its 27-year exile from power in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress leader reached here around 10.45 AM by chopper and started knocking at the doors of farmers.
