Gangster accused in murder of former Delhi legislator held

New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) A gangster who was involved in murder case of former Delhi legislator Bharat Singh as well as around two dozen cases of extortion, murder, and other serious crimes has been arrested, police said on Thursday.

The Special Cell late Wednesday late night arrested Manjeet Singh from Dwarka area of west Delhi following a tip off after he came to meet one of his associates to procure weapons to eliminate rival gang members.

A 9 mm pistol and 52 live cartridges were recovered from his possession, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, P.S. Kushwah said that Manjeet Singh, a resident of Mitraon village in Najafgarh, was involved in murder of Bharat Singh, a former Indian National Lok Dal legislator from Najafgarh and Sunil in 2015 and the Police Commissioner had set a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head.

Manjeet Singh, who has a rivalry with Krishan Pahelwan gang, was roaming around the Delhi-National Capital Region from some days, and teams of Special Cell were deployed in Najafgarh, Dwarka, Gurgaon and Chattarpur area to locate his hideout, he said.
