Goa Congress supports triple talaq, slams Modi
Panaji, Oct 27 (IANS) The Goa Congress expressed support for the triple talaq form of divorce and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “trying to meddle with Sharia law and polarise the votes by attacking the minority community”.
“Modi is trying to create a communal issue by trying to interfere with the Sharia… He has no right to interfere in matters related to the Muslim religion,” Congress spokesperson Urfan Mullah said on Thursday.
“Had triple talaq been such a bad thing, women from our community would not have progressed so far right from Uttar Pradesh to here,” he said.
Asked if the Congress party in Goa supported the practice of triple talaq, Mullah said: “Of course we support triple talaq.”
