Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo begins with pomp and show
Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], Feb.19 (ANI): The formal celebration of Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo, 2017, began on Sunday with inauguration of Golden Jubilee Gate, Art and Craft Gallery, food courts and exhibition stalls.
The day was graced by Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein as Chief Guest and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Bamang Felix as Guest of Honour, advised the Nyishi Community to preserve its rich culture and heritage.
Highlighting the importance of the festival he said, "Let us not lose and forget the original ethos and values of the festival we have inherited from our forefathers which is diminishing day by day."
Two commemorative pillars are also being erected at Phu-Joram and Suil Joram to mark the 50th anniversary of the festival.
Nyokum is one of the major socio-agricultural festivals of the Nyishi community. To commemorate the 50 years of its official recognition during North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) time, Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo 2017 is being celebrated this year with the theme 'Celebrating Identity, Celebrating Existence' at Joram village. The celebration which begun on February 10 will culminate on February 27.
Parliamentary Secretaries Likha Saaya, Chow Zingnu Namchoom, Secretary Planning Joram Beda, former Chairman AP Rubber Board Likha Maj, DC Kemo Lollen and SP Tage Habung among others attended the celebration. (ANI)
