IIT-Kanpur student commits suicide, reason unknown
New Delhi: A third-year PhD student, hailing from Faridabad in Haryana, and studying at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in his hostel room, media reports said on Wednesday.
The reason behind the suicide is not known, as police said they found a note from hostel room which was reportedly torn into pieces. Deputy Director of IIT-Kanpur, Manindra Agarwal, said that the reason behind the suicide was still not clear.
“The reason behind his suicide is not clear. A letter has been recovered and it has been handed over to the forensic team,” Agarwal said in a media report.
The student, Bheem Singh, was last seen on Tuesday. When the students found his room locked from inside they knocked his door but there was no response. They later informed the authorities, who found Bheem hanging from the ceiling fan.
Bheem had completed his B Tech from NIT in Warangal and had joined the mechanical engineering department of IIT-Kanpur in 2015.
The parents of Bheen have been informed about the incident and the body sent for post-mortem examination, said the reports.
