Indian teen cricketer dies after drowning in swimming pool in Sri Lanka

Colombo/Sri Lanka/September 7: A 12-year-old Indian cricketer, who played for the under-17 team, died in Sri Lanka after drowning in a swimming pool on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the 12-year-old died after drowning in Sri Lanka. The Gujarat based boy was reportedly in the Island nation with the Under-17 team to participate in a tournament.

According to a report, four members of the Indian team were in the swimming pool of a hotel in Pamunugama on Tuesday evening. This is when the incident took place and the boy was immediately rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to death.

 The report also stated that the body of the cricketer was taken to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the police is investigating the matter. The boy who hailed from Gujarat was travelling with a 19-member squad. The reason behind this incident is still not clear.

The incident took place while the senior Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli is also in Sri Lanka. India defeated the hosts in one-off T20I on Wednesday evening to complete a perfect tour. Virat Kohli’s men won the Test series 3-0, followed it with a 5-0 ODI victory before thrashing Sri Lanka in the T20I.

Earlier this year, the body of the fitness trainer of Under-19 Indian cricket team Rajesh Sawant was found dead in a private hotel in Mumbai. Sawant’s case came to light when he didn’t report for the training session. It was suspected that Sawant must have died due to a cardiac arrest.
