Karnataka Assembly polls to be held on May 12, counting on May 15
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for Karnataka Assembly elections on Monday. Media reports said the Assembly polls in the southern state would be held on May 12 and counting of votes would be done on May 15.
There are total of 224 seats in Karnataka Assembly.
The ECI said the notification for elections would be done on April 17. It added that April 24 would be the last date for filing nominations and April 27 would be the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
The model code of conduct would come into force immediately.
The southern state is currently ruled by the Congress party. The term of the current Assembly ends May 28.
For the Congress, incumbent chief minister Siddaramaiah remains the candidate for the top post. The BJP has fielded former chief minister, BS Yeddyurappa as its candidate for the chief minister.
