Magh Bihu, Uttarayan celebrated across nation
New Delhi [India], Jan. 14 (ANI): Magh Bihu is being celebrated across Assam with traditional fervour and gaiety.
People from all sections of life have participated in the joyous celebration of the harvest festival.
Traditional Meji and Bhelaghar made of thatch and fire woods are being set on fire today amid chanting of prayers to the God Agni.
A host of cultural programmes and traditional sports are being organized to mark the festival.
But the administration has banned organizing animal fight as per the Supreme Court's directive.
Delicious traditional delicacies have been prepared at almost every household.
The people also throng to markets to buy food items in Guwahati and other areas. The community feast is being organized tonight across the state.
Special prayers are being offered in Guwahati's Sukreswar Temple on the occasion of Magh Bihu.
Meanwhile, Uttarayan-the festival of kites is being celebrated in every part of Gujarat with the ardent fervour and zeal from early morning.
The Kite flyers as well as kite lovers from all across the globe already reached Gujarat to participate in the International Kite Festival being held in different cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot.
The shops selling kites of different colours, shapes and shades were flooded with people buying kites till the midnight.
From early morning, skies are getting dotted with the colourful kites.
The Gujarat Government has put a ban on the use of deadly Chinese Manja.
Various NGOs along with the state government departments have taken up awareness drive in the state. Some of the NGOs have started helpline numbers to save the injured birds.
As part of festival, kite flying competitions are also being held in different parts of the state.
The delicious Gujarati feast ,such as Undhiyu and Jilebi are the specialties of the day.
Long queues can be seen in front of sweets and Namkin shops from early morning. (ANI)
