Man stabs daughter to death for marrying lower caste boy in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM March 23, 2018: A man stabbed his 22-year-old daughter on Thursday late evening at Malappuram (north Kerala), about 350 km from the capital, on the eve of her wedding, media reports said.
The girl, Athira, was set to marry a boy from a lower caste. According to reports, the girl was killed following a verbal spat between the girl and her parent.
According to the police, Athira had been dating Brijesh and though their family members strongly opposed their relationship, they finally came around.
Media reports said Athira’s father, who was inebriated, got into an argument with her during the wedding preparations, to be held on Friday. He got into an argument and attacked her. She ran into a neighbour’s house for help but he chased her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, police said.
Athira, a lab assistant at Manjeri Medical College Hospital, suffered a deep wound on her chest and died on the spot. After the incident, her father tried to escape but locals apprehended him and handed over to the police.
The police later arrested the girl’s father Rajan following the incident.
