Motorola Moto G4 with Snapdragon 617, 2GB RAM launched in India
Mumbai, June 22: Motorola on Wednesday launched the Moto G4 in India. The phone, which was announced earlier on May 17 when the company launched the Moto G4 Plus, will go on sale exclusively at Amazon. It will be sold at a price of Rs 12,499.
Motorola has brought the G4 to the Indian market little over a month after the Moto G4 Plus became available. Both the Moto G4 and the G4 Plus are similar phones, although there are a few significant differences. The G4 Plus has more premium camera components as well as has a fingerprint scanner. It also has a higher starting price of Rs 13,499.
For Motorola, the Moto G4 is a rather tricky launch. The phone is well-equipped but faces tough challenge from other Motorola phones in the market. It has the same Snapdragon 617 processor that does duty in the Moto G4 Plus. However, only variant of the Moto G4 is available, unlike the G4 Plus that has two variants. The Moto G4 has 2GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, with support for microSD card provided in case a user requires more internal storage.
The phone also has a 13-megapixel camera, which is not as jazzy as the 16-megapixel shooter in the Moto G4 Plus. However, the front camera — with 5-megapixel image sensor — is the same. The 5.5-inch screen with FullHD resolution is also same.
By all accounts, the Moto G4 looks like one cool upgrade to the Moto G3. The only problem for this phone is its price. The MRP of Rs 12,499 pits it too close to the Moto G4 Plus, which is clearly a better value for money. It also puts it very close to the Moto G Turbo, which has the same Rs 12,499 price on Flipkart.
Although, Turbo is a smaller phone with 5-inch screen, the core hardware is similar to that of the Moto G4. The G Turbo uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, which is very similar to the Snapdragon 617. The Turbo also has 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and 16GB internal storage. Additionally, it has a body that is water and dust-proof, something that the Moto G4 lacks.
