New social fad is taking over people is a crying club in Surat
Surat,July6:A new social fad is taking over people and it is nothing else but a ‘Crying Club’. India’s first crying club started in Gujarat’ Surat. People gather to cry at the club to vent out their sorrows and pelted frustrations with tears.
The concept of the club is derived from the notion that the doctors declare a baby is healthy only after it cries. Considering this notion, the club believes that crying is healthy for life. Thus, to reduce stress, Laughter Therapist Kamlesh Masalawala and his friends have started ‘Healthy Crying Club’.
On the last Sunday of each month, between 8am to 10 am, people gather at the Crying Club. People from all walks of life, from doctors ro housewives and engineers to lawyers, several citizens partake in the event. The first session was conducted on June 25.
Masalawala said, “Crying is not difficult but it is essential. As people grow, the responsibilities on their shoulders grow as well. They cover sensitive side of their personality. Crying is a good way to bring out their emotions. We feel like crying so many times but we cannot. This is just a small effort to help explore emotional side of their personalities.”
He further added,”There are ample benefits of laughing but crying too has its own set of health benefits. That is why you should cry whenever you feel like crying. We are habituated to hide our tears to look strong. This is the right time to change this habit.”
Dr. Mukul Choksi, Psychiatrist and one of the key persons associated with the club said, “We were not sure whether people will take this seriously, but more people have joined the club than we expected. We were doubtful about whether people would like to recall memories that make them feel sad, but their participation was encouraging. Many of them shared incidents from their lives and let themselves cry.”
