PM Modi announces dedicated Russia desk: MEA
St. Petersburg [Russia], June 2 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced the creation of a dedicated desk for handling Russian investments at joint CEOs forum.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said that there is a political commitment at the highest level of the leadership to keep bilateral relations at absolute priority.
MEA official spokesperson Gopal Baglay said the big picture is about "India and Russia having a vital global role as world powers" and also cooperating and consulting terrorism, rule based world order, respect for sovereignty while taking collective initiatives and opposition to unilateralism .
"On Afghanistan in our region India have had many important consultations with Russia
Also strong support Russia articulated for India's candidature to UNSC and to India membership global export control regimes," Baglay said.
Adding, both the leaders acknowledged the role of the relationship over the past 70 years in not only building India's capability in science and technology, but also basically contributing to the global stability and peace and development .
On the economic side, India and Russia have been entering a wide -diversified area, which is not merely confined to nuclear , but will be ranging from such as high technology, aerospace, etc.
He said that the Prime Minister "emphasized the role of the private sector in enhancing trade and commercial ties between the two countries, adding that India and Russia are close to achieving the target of 30 billion US dollars worth of investment by 2025."
Baglay also said, "Prime Minister will be meeting several Governors and leaders of Russian regions tomorrow on Friday. This meeting is very valuable and as strength of cooperative federalism lies in our states so interaction with states and it involves more economy and investment."
Both the leaders interacted with top CEOs and urged the private sector of India and Russia to work closely and boast economic ties.
As both the leaders agreed to increase business opportunities between the two countries, Putin pledged to increase investments into India
In the meeting, Putin said India will become a full-fledged member of the Shanghai Cooperation Oraganisation (SCO) in a week.

"Acknowledging the potential of Russian investment in 'Make in India' programmes 'digital India', Prime Minister Modi announced a special desk under "invest India" a special desk will be created for handling and facilitating the Russian investments," he said.
MEA joint secretary GV Srinivas said, "Both the countries will work towards a higher level of military- to- military cooperation by holding regular joint land and sea military exercises and this year both the countries will conduct the first ever Tri-services exercise INDRA-2017."
Both countries strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and stressed, "There can be no justification whatsoever for any acts of terrorism, whether based upon ideological, religious, political, racial, ethnic or any other reasons". (ANI)
