PM Modi lauds successful testing of Ballistic Interceptor Missile
New Delhi [India], Feb 26 (ANI): Lauding India's successful progress in the field of defence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that inculcation of the Ballistic Interceptor Missile is a cutting edge technology in the arena of security.
Addressing the nation in his 29th edition of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi said that only four-five countries have the powerful Ballistic Interceptor Missile and that missile, based on the interception technology during its trial, destroyed an enemy missile 100 km above the ground.
"India has achieved a major success in the field of defence. India has successfully tested Ballistic Interceptor Missile; This is a cutting edge technology in the arena of security," said Prime Minister Modi.
"This missile based on the interception technology during its trial destroyed an enemy missile 100 km above the ground. It is a very important success in the field defence. Only four-five countries have this capability in the world. Our scientists have achieved this feat. It can destroy an enemy missile in outer space itself," he added.
Earlier this month an indigenously developed interceptor missile successfully destroyed an incoming ballistic missile in a direct hit, demonstrating the capability of India's Ballistic Missile Shield (BMD), which is under development.
The BMD is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a two layered system to tackle incoming targets at endo and exo atmospheres. (ANI)
