Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Textile India 2017 exhibition, Transstadia sports stadium in Ahmedabad
Gandhinagar, July 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Textile India 2017 exhibition here, a three-day-long event aimed to showcase India as a global sourcing hub and investment destination for manufacturers. An estimated 2,500 international buyers, 1,000 foreign and domestic exhibitors are taking part in the meet which is also being attended by Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, MoS for Textiles Mr Ajay Tamta, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his Gujarat counterpart Vijay Rupani.
Mr Modi urged global investors to invest in the textile industry of India as the nation is a bright spot in the global economy. Urging investors to ‘Come, Make Textiles in India,’ Mr Modi, who is on a two-day visit to his home state, said the industry comes second after agriculture sector in employment generation.
This stadium shows how the government and private sector can work together in creating good sporting infrastructure, says PM Modi. Keeping in view the importance of the textile sector, his government is giving special focus on the industry and has already given a package to it. Mr Modi said,”Based on the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, the organised textile industry is being infused with the mantras of ‘skill, scale, speed’ and ‘zero-defect, zero-effect’ for scaling up employment, production and exports. “We have one of the most liberal investment policies for foreign investment in the textile and apparel sector.
We allow 100 percent FDI through automatic route in textile and apparel sector,” he added. The Premier said that Indian tourists frequently buy garments abroad but realize later that they have been made in India which is the world’s second largest exporter of textiles and traditional handlooms and handicraft products and exports to more than 100 countries.
Mr Chandrababu Naidu, on the occasion, expressed hope that the textile industry will reach new heights under the vision of Mr Modi under whom ‘khadi’ has become a fashion statement nowadays.
Textile India 2017, which is the nation’s first ever mega trade event for the textile sector, was also attended by leading industrialists including Kumar Mangalam Birla, B K Goenka, Sanjay Lalbhai and Gautam Singhania. The event has been organised by the Union Ministry of Textiles and US, China, UK, Australia, Germany, Bangladesh, South Korea, UAE and Vietnam are among the participating nations
