Srinagar, May 4: Property worth lakhs of rupees has been destroyed in a devastating fire incident in the downtown city in the wee hours, official sources said.
They said fire broke out in a house at Zampoa Kadal, Chattabal, in the downtown.
They said that fire broke out in a house in densely populated Baramulla old town.
However, before the fire tenders could reach there, fire spread to adjoining houses.
Fire and Emergency spokesman said eight fire tenders from different parts of the city were rushed to the area to control the leaping flames.
He said two houses were completely reduced to ashes while four others also suffered partial damage.
Fire tenders from different parts of Baramulla and neighbouring districts were rushed to spot to control the leaping flames, clearly visible from a distance.
Eight houses were damaged in the fire which was brought under control after about an hour-long struggle.
Locals said about 15 families were rendered homeless in the incident. The cause of fire was not known, they said. No injuries were reported. – See more at:
