Punjab, Haryana Chief Ministers condole Om Puri’s death

Chandigarh, Jan 6 (IANS) The Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana on Friday condoled the death of veteran actor Om Puri.

Puri, 66, was born in Ambala (now in Haryana) in 1950 when it was still part of Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal described Om Puri as a “son of the soil”.

“He was a multi-faceted personality being a film star and a theatre artist. The veteran Bollywood actor was admired by his fans and was a versatile actor who proved his mettle while working in Bollywood and Hollywood,” Badal said in a statement here.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also expressed grief.

“He worked in several Indian films as well as many films produced abroad. The acclaimed actor had delivered some stellar performances. In his death, the cinema world has lost one of its most loved characters,” he added.
