Qatar PM to visit India next month
New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS) Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani will be visiting India next month, the third high-level visit between the two countries in the last two years.
Al Thani will arrive here on December 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry.
The two leaders will hold discussions on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of common interest, the statement said.
Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani visited India in March 2015 which was followed by the visit of Modi to that Gulf nation in June 2016.
“Our close and friendly relations with Qatar are based on mutually beneficial commercial exchanges and extensive people-to-people contacts. Qatar is not only an important trading partner for us in the Gulf region but is also the largest supplier of LNG to us, accounting for 66 percent of our total imports in 2015-16,” the ministry statement said.
“Indians form the largest expatriate community in Qatar and their positive contribution in the progress and development of their host country is well recognised. There are over 630,000 Indian nationals working in Qatar,” it added.
