Renewable energy can create over 30,0000 jobs in India

New Delhi [India] June 24, (ANI) : The recent joint report of India's Council on Energy, Environment and Water(CEEW) and the Natural Resources Defense Council(NRDC) states the growth of renewable energy in India could create over three lakh new jobs over the next five years.
The Councils have found that approximately one million jobs can be generated if India reaches its renewable energy target by 2022.
The National Solar Mission's target of reaching the solar capacity of 100 GW by 2022 is a part of its push to reach 175 GW of renewable energy capacity.
Nehmat Jaur, the NRDC's consultant and the co author of the report, said "Clean energy expansion is generating thousands of new jobs while meeting India's climate and economic goals".
He further said in the report "With this tremendous opportunity, India is stepping up as a global leader in demonstrating how a growing economy can scale up renewable energy, generate employment and provide access in the face of rising energy demands."
The report states that approximately three lakh new jobs will be generated in India but if it touches the target of 175 GW then one million jobs will be created.
The report also said that Rooftop solar alone could support 238,000 jobs, with large-scale solar creating a further 58,600 jobs
In 2016, over 21,000 jobs were created in renewable energy sector, which will increase to 25,000 in 2017.
