Russian experts in Ankara to probe envoy assassination

Ankara, Dec 20 (IANS) An 18-member team of Russian experts arrived in Ankara on Tuesday to investigate the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov.

The team, including one prosecutor and two defence attaches, will investigate the incident along with with Turkish officials, Xinhua reported.

The plane with the Russian probe team will take Karlov’s body back to Moscow after the completion of procedures by Turkish and Russian authorities.

Meanwhile, the Turkish police has so far arrested seven people in connection with the Russian envoy’s murder.

On Monday, the Russian ambassador was delivering a speech at the Contemporary Arts Gallery in Ankara’s central Cankaya district when Turkish policeman Mevlut Mert Altintas shot him dead.

The police early on Tuesday arrested six relatives and a roommate of Altintas who is absconding.
