S. Jaishankar attends working lunch with US Under Secretary
Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], Mar. 2 (ANI): At the time of transition in the relations between of India and the United States, Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday attended a working lunch with US Under Secretary Thomas Shannon.
Jaishankar left for the US on a four-day visit, aimed at sensitising the Trump administration over India's concerns over the security of Indian nationals in the US following a possible cut in H1B and L1 visas.
Jaishankar will be taking meetings at the State Department and the White House. It isn't, however, clear who he will meet given that many positions in the US State Department are yet to be filled, including the Deputy Secretary of the State and the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.
Jaishankar will also try to get a sense of what Trump's administration's policies and pacts are going to be for India and how the two countries can collaborate in areas important to them, including terrorism and security issues in the Indian Ocean region.
Jaishankar's visit comes days after an Indian software engineer was shot dead and another injured in Kansas.
This is Jaishankar's second visit to the US since the election of Donald Trump as the 45th President. (ANI)
