Tata launches Tigor, new sub four metre sedan
New Delhi [India], Mar.30 (ANI): Tata Motors hase come out with an all new sub four metre sedan, Tigor, targeted at a younger car buyer.
Cars in this segment are popular in the commercial segment but Tata has decided that the Tigor will not be moved into the commercial segment and will be for individual buyers.
Speaking at the launch, Vivek Srivatsa, Head-Marketing, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, said, "Definitional, not right now," when asked about selling this car to commercial customers. He even added that Tata has no plans to introduce its hatchback, Tiago to the commercial segment."
The Tigor does away with a base variant without air conditioning as the Tiago base variant hardly sells and Tata feels that the customer does not want such a variant, explained Vivek at the launch.
The Tigor has a starting price of Rs 4.7 Lakhs and the top end diesel can be yours for Rs 5.91 Lakhs, (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
The petrol version of the car will be powered by a 1.2L Revotron engine which shall make 84 bhp of peak power and 114 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the 1.05 litre turbocharged diesel engine makes 69 bhp of peak power and 140 Nm of peak torque. Both cars will come with a five speed manual transmission. A petrol AMT version can be expected which has recently been launched as an option for the Tiago.
With this car, Tata wants to move away from showcasing the car as a sub four metre sedan and is trying to market it as a 'Styleback'.
"India's first 'Styleback', the Tata TIGOR is designed to usher in a new era of style to the segment. High on the bravura quotient, the TIGOR is a result of the company's relentless focus on design and technology. We are confident that this complete package will break the clutter and redefine the highly competitive segment," said Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors.
The Tigor is based on Tata's hatchback, Tiago and both cars share the same engines, interior colour scheme and overall styling. The Tigor gets coupe-like design which gives it an edge in the boot-capacity. Tata expects the Tigor to have a waiting period of nearly a month and a half at the start and they plan to ramp up production at the Sanad plant, where both the Tiago and Tigor are manufactured. (ANI)
