TD not passing on to them the GST on ingredients of Tirumala laddus to pilgrims

TIRUPATI,July8: Pilgrims visiting Tirumala shrine can breathe easy. The TTD is not passing on to them the GST on ingredients that go into making of famed Tirumala laddus.As pilgrim-friendly gesture, the TTD is absorbing the additional burden but for avaialing other services, the devotees would have to cough up more like when the buy gold dollars, when you pay for accommodation and kalyanamantapams.
The TTD will have to bear a burden of `32 crore per annum for absorbing the GST that it pays while it procures the ingredients for making the laddus.

On the sale of gold dollars there will be 3 per cent GST, on room rent it would be between `1,000 and `2,500. In June, 25,77,165 pilgrims had the darshan of Lord which was 1.08 lakh more in the same month last year, registering an increase of 4.4 per cent. As a result the the TTD sold 1.07 crore laddus as against 94 lakh laddus in the same month last year.

According to officials, TTD will continue to bear the GST till such time the it is withdrawn. State finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu had promised to take up the issue with the GST council on the need for exempting the ingredients that go into the making of laddus from GST. The GST council is understood to have promised to waive the GST on the ingredients too.
