Three arrested for molesting student in Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 6 (IANS) Three people have been arrested for allegedly molesting a teenage girl on her way back from school in West Begal’s East Midnapore district, police said on Sunday.

The incident happened in the district’s Mahishadal town.

“Ganesh Das, Tapan Bera and Surajit Das were arrested on Saturday evening for allegedly harassing and passing obscene comments to a class twelve student from a pick-up truck,” police said.

The locals accused the three of being drunk and following the girl all along her way.

“There were five people in the truck making obscene comments to the girl and pulled her scarf while she was riding a bicycle. The girl lost her balance and fell down,” a local said.

The locals came out hearing the girl’s cry for help and chased the truck.

“We caught the three accused when their truck lost control while trying to flee and hit a roadside structure. However, two of their accomplices ran away,” said a local resident.

Police have slapped the three accused with charges of rash driving and assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe.

“Hunt is on for the two other accused,” police said.
