Trolls reflect patriarchal mindset of society: Women activist
New Delhi [India], Dec. 26(ANI): Woman activist Zakia Soman on Monday said that the recent trolling on cricketer Mohammed Shami's wife wardrobe reflects a patriarchal mindset of society, adding that this kind of harassment should be brought under the ambit of law.
Soman told ANI that this kind of mob mentality is coming to the fore in social media which is unacceptable.
"This kind of anonymity provided by the social media, lot of misogynist people and getting away by trolling women at drop of a hat…this is something which should be brought under the ambit of law because the law gives choice to individuals and protection to this kind of attacks and trolls and this is just not acceptable," she said.
Resonating similar sentiments, another woman activist Shamina Shafiq dubbed the 'incident' as unfortunate and said that such kind of moral policing doesn't shock her anymore as this is how the country is.
"It is very convenient for moral police 'men' to talk about the dress code which is very unfortunate but it is also deep rooted patriarchy which gets reflected in each and every such incidents. It doesn't shock me as this is how India is," she said.
India's strike bowler Mohammed Shami came under sharp criticism of Muslim fanatics for posting his wife Hasin Jahan's pictures on social media.
Several followers advised the India speedster not to post such un-Islamic pictures of his wife and lectured the cricketer upon what his wife should wear. (ANI)
