UNESCO to host culinary fest in Kochi

Kochi June 30:Leading chefs from 31 countries connected with the historic Spice Route will take part in a culinary festival, to be hosted by UNESCO, Kerala Tourism, and the Tourism Ministry in Kochi in September.

The event, to be held from September 23 to 26, is a prelude to the ninth edition of the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM), to be inaugurated on World Tourism Day, September 28. The three-day event, to be held at the Samudrika and Sagara Convention Centre, Willingdon Island, will conclude on September 30.

A release quoted KTM Society president Abraham George as saying: “The festival will promote the KTM 2016 theme: ‘Muziris and Spice Route’. The three-day event will hold great appeal for foodies. There will be a competition in which an expert panel and invited dignitaries will rate dishes and select the best chef.” Chefs from Spice Route countries will experience Kerala’s cultural and gastronomic offerings, participate in cooking demos and culinary discussions, and showcase the best of fare from their places.

Prize-winning recipes that make use of Kerala spices and local ingredients will be featured in city menus, the release said. The festival will culminate in a public tasting event. Ambassadors from the respective countries will participate in the festival, and the winner will be felicitated at the inaugural of KTM. The Mart will bring together entrepreneurs from the State who offer a range of tourism products and services.
