Woman tied to tree, thrashed on panchayat’s order in Uttar Pradesh
NEW DELHI: In a video that has gone viral, a man is seen thrashing his 25-year-old wife after a panchayat verdict allowed him to do so at Longa village of Syana region of Bulandshahr, 400 km away from capital Lucknow, on March 10.
However, the video became viral on Thursday and so the FIR was lodged against seven named and many unknown persons, said the media reports.
So far three persons have been arrested.
A large crowd is seen witnessing the beating up of the woman, but no one came forward to help her, said the media reports.
The video shows the woman’s hands tied to a branch and her husband shouting at her “Ab bhaag ke dikha (now, show your courage to run away).”
Superintendent of police (SP), Bulandshahr, Praveen Ranjan Singh, said the police arrested the woman’s husband, former panchayat head and his son in the case.
Later, according to the woman’s FIR, she was taken by a few men inside the house and molested. The woman had allegedly eloped with a village youth.
The woman in her complaint said that she had gone with her neighbour Dharmender Lodhi but after five days a few villagers brought them back to the village on March 10 and her hands were tied to a tree and she was thrashed by her husband Sundan Singh in full public view. “A few persons did protest but no one came forward to rescue me. Later, a few village men took me inside our house and molested me calling me a prostitute. Former pradhan even made a video of my humiliation. After my ordeal, I was asked to stay quiet about the whole issue or I would be killed,” she added in the FIR.
