Nay Pyi Taw August 23: An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale jolted Myanmar and Bangladesh on Tuesday morning. According to ANI, the earthquake hit India-Myanmar border region as well.

The epicentre of the earthquake was determined 57 km from Khampat, Myanmar (Burma), which hit the region at 7.41 am, the US Geological Survey said.

Two earthquakes measuring 3.1 and 5.5 on the Richter scale shook Assam on Tuesday, forcing people to rush out of their houses in panic. There was no immediate report of any injury or damage to property due to the tremors, the police said.

Met office here said the first quake of 3.1 intensity rocked Guwahati and other places of the state at 5.30 AM. It had its epicentre at latitude 25.6 degree north and longitude 93.2 degree east at a depth of 10 km in Karbi Anglong district of the state.

The second tremor of moderate intensity was at 7.41 AM with its epicentre 23.8 north and 94.5 degree east in the Indo-Myanmar region at a depth of 100 km, the office said.

Reports suggest that earthquake tremors were felt in Guwahati and Karbi Anglong district in Assam.

Police and fire officials said there were no reports of any major damage so far, Xinhua news agency reported.
The quake struck at 2.50 pm and was described as minor by the met department official.
