“It is difficult to accept women as officers”: Another woman officer has come forward to complain against the state police department

Bengaluru, Aug 30: Nearly two months after a top Karnataka police officer, Ballari’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupama Shenoy, resigned over alleged interference in her work by her superior, yet another woman officer has come forward to complain against the state police department.

Ballari police station sub inspector Gayathri Farhan on Friday shared a post on Facebook complaining about the plight of women police officers.

In her post, the officer wrote about the discriminatory treatment meted out to men and women and how the work done by women officers isn’t given due recognition.

“It is difficult to accept women as officers. I am experiencing it since the beginning of my career. Though women work hard, their hard work is not recognised like that of men in the department,” Farhan wrote in her post.

The post went massively viral on social media and raked up a controversy , following which Farhan later deleted it.

On Monday, Farhan put out a status on Facebook again, clarifying it was a general post and that it should not be given any colour.

This is what her entire post – which was subsequently deleted – read :

“It is difficult for people to accept women as officers. I’m experiencing it since the beginning of my career. Though women work hard, their hard work is not recognised like that of men in the department. I took seven years to adjust to the atmosphere in the department. Sometimes a few incidents have brought tears into my eyes. But never showed those tears before anyone thinking that it may weaken me. I have started questioning about the efficiency. It’s difficult for women to prove their existence both in the society and in the professional life. Ultimately it’s a one man army believing in the principle of Do or DIE.”
