Lucknow, August 19: From Mahatma Gandhi to Amitabh Bachchan, it’s a long list of applicants hoping to get jobs as assistant teachers in Lucknow’s government schools. Mahatma Gandhi, in fact, is the merit list topper with 94% marks.

Candidates have even used expletives instead of their original names in the application. The female topper on the list is one such example.

According to Basic Shiksha Adhikari for Lucknow Praveen Mani Tripathi, around 15 applications with notorious names have surfaced. In one application, the candidate’s name is ABC while the father’s name is BCD, reports timesofindia.com.

While preparing the merit list, we were surprised to see names such as Amitabh Bachchan and Mahatma Gandhi. We had stalled the merit list and constituted a committee to look into these applications. However, a day later, after much deliberation, we decided to go ahead and include these applications on the merit list,” said Tripathi.

While Mahatma Gandhi stood first, the second position was grabbed by a candidate whose first name is Arshad but surname an expletive.
“What’s interesting is that this candidate has marked his gender as female,” Tripathi said.
At the time of counselling, when documents were verified, none of these 15 candidates turned up. “When no candidate showed up, we understood these were fake application forms filled online just to mess up the merit list and trouble officials,” said Tripathi.
Candidates who are Basic Teaching Certificate (BTC) qualified are eligible for the job of assistant teacher in government schools. In UP, recruitments are being done for 16,448 posts. In Lucknow, more than 800 applications poured in for 33 vacant posts.
