New Delhi July 28: Outspoken BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, has demanded a thorough discussion in Parliament on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, had further claimed that he was killed by Nathuram Godse with an imported Italian pistol. He speculated that there was an Italian connection to the murder and would hold a press conference to this issue.

Swamy had last week demanded a discussion in Parliament on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, saying no autopsy was conducted on the body.

Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha amid protests from the Congress, Swamy said this must be debated as “parliamentarians” were making comments on it and had to be pulled up by the Supreme Court.

Referring to the recently declassified files on the death of Mahatma Gandhi, Swamy said that the files point out that Mahatma Gandhi’s body was not subjected to post mortem to establish whether he was shot by Nathuram Godse and how did he succumb to his injuries.

“As a result, there is no clarity on the number of bullets fired. Newspapers said there were four bullets, public prosecutor said it was three and there were three empty chambers in Godse’s gun. However Godse told the court that he had fired only two rounds.

The archives need to be re-looked to establish the truth,” said Swamy.

Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead at a prayer meeting here on 30 January, 1948 by Nathuram Godse, who was hanged along with Narayan Apte for the killing.

Over the decades, the RSS has repeatedly denied claims by Godse’s brother that he (Nathuram Godse) was associated with the RSS.
