Bengaluru July 30:In what has sent shockwaves across the state of Karnataka, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Rakesh has been declared dead in Belgium.

Thirty-nine-year old Rakesh had been suffering from a pancreatic ailment and reportedly died of a multiple organ failure.

He had recently been admitted at the Antwerp University Hospital in Brussels and was in a critical condition.

Rakesh was reportedly holidaying with his friends when he developed the medical complications from a previous illness.

Rakesh was known to help his father in his political career and was based out of Mysuru.

He is reported to have told his friends recently that he would contest from the Varna constituency in the 2018 state polls.

The 39 year old was  undergoing treatment for acute pancreatitis at Brussel’s Antwerp University Hospital.

On Wednesday, following the resolution of a transport strike in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah had stated he would be joining his wife and younger son Dr Yathindra in Belgium to be with his son Rakesh (40).

The Karnataka CM had refused to divulge the nature of the ailment of his son. He had sought the help of the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to facilitate treatment of his son in a hospital there, sources said.

The CM’s older son travelled to Belgium on July 21 with four friends.

Facebook profiles of some of the friends who are travelling with Rakesh show they were headed for one of the world’s biggest electronic music festivals “Tomorrowland” held at Boom in Belgium from July 22 to July 24.
