Thiruvananthapuram, August 20: Talks between the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCA) and the State government on admission to the MBBS seats in self-financing medical colleges in the State  finally ends on Saturday in an amicable way.

The talks on Friday remained inconclusive as the KPMCA was not willing to accept the government’s stand that the allotment to all seats, including the management quota seats, in these colleges be conducted through common counselling.

The government took the stand that the Supreme Court as well as the Union Health Ministry has issued directives that admissions to self-financing medical colleges in the State should be on the basis of a common list prepared by the State government based on the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET).

As per the new directive 50 percent of the merit seats in self-financing colleges should be filled from list of entrance conducted by the state government. Admissions to management and NRI seats of the private medical colleges have to be made from National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

With this admissions to all the medial seats will be based on merit. The examination commissioner has already been issued a directed in this regard. The managements of self-financing colleges had already voiced their dissent when the subject was tabled for discussion. The managements were planning to approach the Center when the state government took the landmark decision.

Meanwhile, MES  has decided to approach the court against the government order.Alleging that the government order is against the rights of minorities, MES chairman Fazal Gafoor said that James Committee has misled the government.

The management of self-financing colleges had protested against the government move regarding medical admissions. The managements had demanded that they should be allowed to collect fees decided by them in NRI seats. However, the government did not approve this. Following this, the managements had informed that they would approach the Centre on this issue.
