Mumbai police blocks Twitter user @AmbedkarCaravan for objectionable posts

Mumbai August 12:The Mumbai Police’s Twitter handle blocked another user who goes by the name @AmbedkarCaravan after the latter started arguing on the Mumbai Police’s Twitter page (@MumbaiPolice).

@AmbedkarCaravan has about 11,200 followers on Twitter and actively posts photos and shares personal opinions on Dalit issues. The identity of the person running the group is not known.

The Mumbai Police twitter handle came across a tweets from Ambedkar’s Caravan, which they found objectionable. They requested @AmbedkarCaravan to remove it.

However, Ambedkar’s Caravan posted comments on Mumbai Police twitter page.

To ensure that these tweets did not reach out to 3.56 lakh people that are following Mumbai Police, the police Twitter team blocked @AmbedkarCaravan from their Twitter page.

The user’s tweets were also deleted from the Mumbai police’s page. And they also deleted their tweet. Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy commissioner of police, Ashok Dudhe said he had no information on the incident.

The Mumbai Police took to twitter in December last year and has received an unprecedented response from the public.

The twitter handle has helped people register suo moto FIRs, gather information on all kinds of crimes by public participation, dissemination of information, spreading awareness on the law, policing, procedures to file complaint, social issues and on traffic sense.
