Hyderabad, August 23: A fortnight passed since Naxalite-turned gangster Nayeemuddin was killed, but not a single word emerged on rumours of police officers’ nexus with him though unreported offences ‘committed by him’ come to light each day.

Fresh cases of murders, child abuse, extortions and land grabbing alleging involvement of Nayeem and his accomplices are being registered in different districts of the State, reports thehindu.com.

Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by Telangana government to probe all cases connected to Nayeem, too had been ‘officially’ giving fresh information.

“That Nayeem was nurtured by police officials and some of them were contacting him till a few weeks before his death is known to many. Surprisingly, SIT and police top brass didn’t utter a single word on this issue till now,” a retired police officer remarked.

A former DGP of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh State, V. Dinesh Reddy, had directed the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) during his tenure to nab Nayeem for the latter’s involvement in several sensational offences. Recently, Mr. Reddy said that the then SIB chief would have told the political bosses to go slow on Nayeem since he was a valuable informant on left wing extremists.

This and several other instances suggested that the gangster was close to some police officers. Names of four police officers were prominently heard in private conversations after his death, reports thehindu.com.

Unconfirmed reports say photos of some police officers taken with Nayeem were found during the raid conducted on his house at Alkapuri colony of Puppalaguda in Narsingi here. Since Nayeem’s association with the police was an open secret, searches at his house triggered speculation that photos taken with police officers were irrefutable evidence on his nexus with police. Strangely, not a single word has come out from the government either to deny or confirm the widely discussed point.
