Singer Abhijeet arrested and released on bail for offensive tweet concering journalist Swati Chaturvedi

Mumbai, August 27: Singer Abhijeet Bhatyacharya, who was booked for his allegedly abusive tweets earlier this year, was arrested in July this year, police officials confirmed on Friday.
Senior Aam Aadmi Party member Preeti Sharma Menon had on July 14 registered an FIR against Bhattacharya over a comment that he made about her on Twitter earlier this month. The singer had referred to her as “ugly” and “picchly” in a tweet concering journalist Swati Chaturvedi. The Cyber Police booked him for defamation and outraging a woman’s modesty, reports thehindu.com.
Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe said, “Abhijeet was arrested by the Cyber Police in mid-July, shortly after the FIR was registered. As the Sections invoked against him were bailable ones, he was granted bail on the spot.”
The police are waiting for the forensic report of the cell phone, after which a chargesheet will be filed against him, senior officials said.
