Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s former principal secretary Rajendra Kumar granted bail in corruption case by Delhi special court

New Delhi July 26: Former principal secretary Rajendra Kumar and confidant of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, was granted bail on Tuesday by a special court in Delhi.
Rajendra Kumar, arrested by the CBI on charges of corruption earlier this month. He was granted bail today on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh.
The special court, granted bail with conditionss, told Kumar that he cannot contact the witnesses, or tamper with evidence in the corruption case. The court also imposed travel restrictions on him and ruled that he cannot travel outside Delhi without its permission.
Kumar was suspended by both Delhi government and the MHA as he rules mandate that an government officer must be suspended if he/she has been under police custody for more than 48 hours. Home ministry officials claimed that only the Centre has the power to suspend the 1989-batch IAS officer from the UT cadre and asked the Delhi government to withdraw its order.
Kumar was arrested along with six others, including his close aide. His aide confessed for the crime and confirmed Kumar’s role in the corruption. Kumar had allegedly favoured a particular agency and flouted rules for awarding government contracts.
