Navjot Singh reveals reason for surprise resignation; asked to stay away from Punjab

Delhi, July 25: “I was asked to not even look at Punjab. How can I quit my roots? This is the fourth time it happened, and it was hard to accept this time,” Mr Sidhu said while answering the media on questions regarding his resignation.
The resignation comes two months after he was nominated into the post of Rajya Sabha member by the BJP . The surprise resignation triggered speculation that the cricketer turned BJP MP was headed to join the AAP ahead of a crucial election period in Punjab.
“Punjab is my home and I cannot leave my home”, quoted Sidhu who also said that “No party in the world is bigger than Punjab.”
He also added that if he was asked to choose between his family, party or Punjab he would always chose Punjab.
The BJP, though, was still pinning its hopes on Sidhu. The party’s Punjab unit chief Vijay Sampla on Sunday said that Sidhu was still a part of the BJP fold and that “he has not resigned from the party”.
His wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who is a BJP member herself said that her husband’s resignation from the Rajya Sabha was tantamount to his resignation from the BJP.
