CBFC objected an ‘offensive shot of a woman’s brasserie’ and the mention of Savita Babhi in Baar Baar Dekho

Mumbai, Aug 29: The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is back in full form once again. As the Katrina Kaif-Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Baar Baar Dekho approaches its release date, details have surfaced about the cuts the CBFC has demanded in the film.

A DNA report claims the board has objected to an “offensive shot of a woman’s brasserie” and the mention of Savita Babhi – a fictional character from pornographic media.

The report quoted a source from the movie’s team as saying, “We don’t live in times where women’s innerwear is never spoken of in public. In fact, even as early as 1995, there was a scene featuring Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Moreover, the film is directed by a woman (Nitya Mehra). To assume she’d use the lingerie scene for titillation is absurd. We were asked to delete the reference. The name is used in a light-hearted manner in the film. If a porn reference is objectionable, how was Sunny Leone’s name used in A Flying Jatt?”

After creating an uproar in the industry before the release of Shahid Kapoor-starrer Udta Punjab, a committee was formed under filmmaker Shyam Benegal to recommend changes in the functioning of the board. Bollywood artists and fans have said that the CBFC is a certification board and must stick to certification, not censorship. CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani, however, wants films to bear a ‘moral responsibility’.

Directed by Nitya Mehra, Baar Baar Dekho is slated to hit theatres on September 9.
